Killer Denied Parole

Updated: Monday, November 4 2013, 10:04 PM EST
BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) -- A notorious killer from Butler County will remain in prison after the parole board says no to his request for freedom.

The board denied a parole request for James Findley.  Local 12 News first told you about Findley's bid to get out of prison last week.

He was sent to death row in 1970 for the murder and mutilation of 16-year-old Cheryl Segal.  His sentence was eventually commuted to life in prison.

Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser found out about last week's parole hearing from a victims' advocate.  Had it not been for that notice, Findley's parole hearing might have gone uncontested, because Gmoser never received a notice from the parole board.

Once Gmoser found out about the hearing he sent a letter opposing parole.  Findley will go before the board again in five years.
