Jury Finds Colerain Teacher Guilty on One Count

Updated: Friday, November 1 2013, 11:21 PM EDT
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- The jury in the trial of a former Colerain teacher found her guilty of one of the two counts of sexual battery.

Julie Hautzenroeder was accused of having sex with two 16-year-old students. The teens testified about sexual activity and smoking marijuana with Hautzenroeder at her Loveland home. Hautzenroeder denied their claims. Her attorney admits the relationship was inappropriate but maintains it wasn't sexual.

The judge called her stupid and irresponsible. He allowed Hautzenroeder to remain free on bond before her sentencing in December. She could get up to five years in prison.

The Prosecutor speculates the jury split the verdict because there was more evidence on the oral sex charge, including the text messages

The jury deliberated for about four and a half hours before reaching their verdict.
