Former Superintendent Admits to Embezzlement

Updated: Tuesday, December 3 2013, 01:04 AM EST
DAYTON, Ky. (WKRC) -- The former Superintendent of a local school district pleads guilty to stealing taxpayers' money Monday in federal court.

Gary Rye admitted to embezzlement in a plea deal expected to send him to prison for 18 to 24 months at sentencing in April.  He originally faced up to ten years.

When Rye was the superintendent of Dayton, Kentucky, schools he took hundreds of thousands of dollars in benefits to which he wasn't entitled.

Rye agreed to return 473,000 dollars to the district.  That's more than double the amount of fraud reported in a state audit.
