Couple Try To Give Back Adopted Son

Updated: Thursday, November 14 2013, 11:19 PM EST
BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) -- An arrest warrant has been issued for a Liberty Township couple who gave back their adopted 9-year-old son to Butler County Children Services.

The couple had raised the child since he was three months old.

Lisa Cox was indicted by a grand jury on one count of nonsupport of dependents for recklessly abandoning her son around October 24th.

Prosecutor Mike Gmoser said, My position is children in general, not speaking to this specific case, they do not have a return to sender label on their forehead.  They are their children for always and they have that duty to support and they cannot abandon without consequences.

The parents accuse the boy of aggressive behaviors.  While he is now receiving the care he needs, he does not understand what has happened to him.

Adolfo Olivas is the boys current guardian and said the boy is very, hurt and confused and traumatized.  Olivas considers this a form of child abuse.

The parents have sought to have their parental rights terminated, Olivas said, Im not sure that terminating parental obligation and rights is the right thing to do here.

The Coxes will be in Butler County Juvenile Court of November 27th.  Nonsupport of dependents is a first degree misdemeanor and threatens six months in jail and a $1,000 dollar fine.
