3-Year-Old's Mother Charged When Child Found Wandering in Cold

Updated: Tuesday, November 26 2013, 09:57 PM EST
HAMILTON, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- Another child found wandering in the cold is rescued by an alert neighbor who calls for help.

A three year old child found crying and wandering around in the cold in the middle of the night is staying with his father tonight.  His mother is charged with child endangering.

The childs mother, Amanda Jacobs, appeared in court Monday.  Police are dumbfounded after the second time in one week a child is found wandering in the cold alone.

Again, a parent is facing charges; but in this latest case the father is defending the mother.

The woman who made the 911 call told police she found the 3-year-old boy wandering in the courtyard by himself.  It was 4:45 in the morning and 19 degrees outside.  Police say the child was wearing only jeans and a t-shirt.

Nobody was home when the police went looking for the boys parents in the next building.  Later Police say 24-year-old, Amanda Jacobs, returned through a backdoor.  She said she had been at a friends home for just a few minutes.

Police charged her with child endangering.  Monday, Kurt Ford, Jacobs boyfriend and the father of the little boy, spoke with Local 12 News.  He did not want his face shown on camera.

Ford said, Im more angry at myself than her.

He was unwavering in his support for Jacobs.

Amanda Jacobs will be arraigned Tuesday.
