Video of kid kicked in head posted to Instagram, leads to arrests
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Okla. (Chelsea Washington/KOKH) -- The viral video of a 15-year-old kicking an 8-year-old in the head is leaving nearly everyone in the small community of Konawa shaking their heads.
In the video, the 15-year-old can be seen getting a running start before forcefully kicking the 8-year-old, who was wearing a football helmet, in the head.
The laughter in the background doesn't belong to other kids. Konawa Police Chief Joe Leeds says the laughter belongs to the kids mother 35-year-old Tracy Casteel and her boyfriend 28-year-old Joshua Whittington.
"It doesn't just happen once, it happens twice. We see professional football players who wear helmets and do this there whole life and have been paralyzed or worse out on the football field," Leeds said.
Leeds says the video was posted late last Wednesday night on an Instagram account and by Thursday morning the calls were already pouring into the Department of Human Services.
"I was completely appalled, I think we all were," Leeds said.
The outrage lead to the quick arrest of Casteel and Whittington on multiple counts of child abuse, neglect and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The 15-year-old in the video was also charged in the abuse.
"Personally, I would warn people against doing bad things, but if they want to continue to do those bad things and post it on the internet so they can make it a little easier on our investigation, that's okay," Leeds said.
The 8-year-old suffered minor injuries from the incident and is now in the custody of DHS.
