1888- The body of Jack the Ripper's second murder victim, Annie Chapman, is found in London.

1920- U.S. Air Mail service beings from New York City to San Francisco.

1930- New York City public schools begin teaching Hebrew.

1945- U.S. invades Japanese-held Korea.

1955- Disneyland welcomes its one millionth visitor!

1952- Ernest Hemingway's novel "The Old Man and the Sea" was published.

1966- NBC-TV aired the first episode of "Star Trek".  The show was canceled on September 2, 1969.
