Dominos Pizza offering new way to do pizza
UNDATED (WKRC) -- Domino's is unveiling a whole new way to do pizza.
On Monday, Domino's announced it will start using fried chicken on their pizzas. The pizza toppings will be placed on breaded, boneless chicken, replacing the crust, and will be called Specialty Chicken. The store plans on offering the new pizza on April 21 as part of the chain's $5.99 deals.
Domino's says the new invention is about outdoing the competition and bringing exciting, creative items to their menu. While many pizza restaurants sell chicken wings, they wanted to figure out a way to incorporate it into their traditional pizza.
According to NPD Group, the sale of boneless chicken is up 11 percent, and Domino's says after pizza, they sell more chicken than anything else. The Specialty Chicken gives consumers the chance to top chicken with items they would normally put on pizza, and it doesn't cause the store owners to have to stock up on any different ingredients.
The four initial offerings of the Specialty Chicken are Crispy Bacon and Tomato, Spicy Jalapeno and Pineapple, Classic Hot Buffalo and Sweet BBQ Bacon. And Domino's CEO, J. Patrick Doyle, says more varieties could be offered down the road.
