In its 15-year history, the Newport Aquarium has earned a reputation as one of the best aquariums in the world. It has displays of animals most of us would rarely see otherwise. Of course, if you just want to see a fish in a tank, many of us just have to walk into the kids' bedroom and check out the goldfish in the bowl.

How long can goldfish live?
1. 12-18 months
2. 2-3 years
3. longer than 10 years

The answer is: 3. longer than 10 years

Goldfish, apparently, can have quite long lives.  The website for the U.S. Geological Survey says the usual lifespan for the goldfish is 6-7 years with a maximum of 30 years. However, and other websites say the Guinness Book of World Records gave its title of longest living goldfish to a fish that lived 43 years. Consider this too: there are several sites, including in 2012, that say there was a koi that lived 226 years. Its name was "hanako" and it was owned by a Japanese doctor before it died in 1977.
