15-year-old Boy Scout finds 4500 dollars
ALBANY, N.Y. (CBS 6) -- Over the weekend James Villeneuve III, a 15-year-old Shaker High-School student found a CVS deposit bag with more than $4,500 inside.
Villeneuve found the bag as he was walking back to the car after spending the day at Tulip Festival with his family.
"I was walking with my cousin, and my aunt and her friend, and while we were walking, we found a bag, the bag had $4,500 inside. We discussed what we should do and we all figured we should bring it back to CVS," says Villeneuve.
He returned the bag right away to the nearest CVS drugstore on New Scotland Avenue. James asked for the person whose name was on the slip. James tells CBS6 when the employee came out he was nervous and sweating.
"He said thank you, you saved my job," says Villeneuve.
James was rewarded with a $20 CVS gift card from the local store, and the CVS headquarters in Woonsocket, R.I., tells CBS6 they will also be sending James an official thank you letter and a $100 gift card to one of his favorite stores, Dick's Sporting Goods.
Earlier that day at the Tulip Festival, James also found an iPhone. The owner offered James $100 reward, but James declined the reward and said he's just happy he was able to do a good deed.
"I told him no, that I didn't need the money, that I did what any boy scout would do," says Villeneuve. Villeneuve is an alter boy at the Blessed Sacrament Parish, and a member of boy scout troop 1099 in Menands, in his free time he is also an aide and a friend to an autistic boy named Joey.
"Boy Scouts is all about being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, cheerful, kind, obedient, cheerful, and I like to demonstrate all of those on a daily basis."
Villeneuve's aunt says she's beyond proud of her nephew, and she tells CBS6 she hopes it serves as a beautiful lesson for others.
"Do the right thing no matter what. It's not about what he got or didn't get, he did the right thing and it hopefully saved a man's job," says Cyndi Villeneuve.
