Lower Temp Washing
Heating the water to wash your clothes is responsible for most of the energy used when operating a clothes washer. Using warm water instead of hot can reduce energy use by half and using cold water can reduce energy even more.
Most experts say there’s no need to worry that your clothes won’t be as clean if the water isn’t as hot. The reduction in temperature will usually do a similar job of cleaning unless clothes are really soiled.
