Surveillance video caught a motorized scooter mishap in Boston's subway system.

The woman on the scooter tried to take an up escalator, despite the fact that there was an elevator just fifty feet away.

She then fell backwards.

Other passengers came to help her and a subway worker pushed the escalator's emergency stop button.

Amazingly the 56-year-old woman managed to walk away from the incident.

I'm not defending anyone that rides these "scooters" but is it really a "sense of entitlement" or is it more along the lines of anger at the world for crapping in their cerial? When I suddenly on a hot September day could no longer do all the things that made life good, I got very angry. I felt cheated/useless and pushed everyone I loved away because I was no longer a real man... in a self-inflicted torturous kind of way. Going from a healthy independent individual to someone who has to have help getting dressed/taking a bath/going to the bathroom is not only devestating to the individual, but to their spouse/children as well. Suddenly almost everything physical/jolting/fun had to cease and that leaves extreme frustration and anger that must be come to terms with... and THAT ain't easy! The rebuilding of a good attitude doesn't happen overnight, but once you forgive yourself for breaking, and accept your life as it is dealt, you can come to grips with just about anything thrown at you... except perhaps politicians, lawyers, doctors and some well off folks that look down their noses at you because you're no longer in the same tax bracket. Sometimes walking in someone elses shoes is the only way to understand how they feel about themselves and what they must do to adjust to their circumstances. Thanks for the kind words corndog.

would be a good clip to Americas Funniest Videos... if the weight is shifted to the back of the chair AND you are going up an incline, what do you think will happen? ask a group of youngsters, they could tell you why this was a bad idea.. glad her clothing did not get caught in the steps and there was a guard close by to turn it off..

If she walked away, why was she riding on this thing?

@wingdo45, that is one of the best posts I've seen on here. I respect the hell out of your thoughts and your personal motto about this, and wish most others who require, REALLY REQUIRE, scooters shared the same motto. I do feel a "stereotype" on this one is, based on my experiences, mostly accurate. I'm with @rosey red on this one. These people feel they are owed something. And since the dozen or so I've seen in the past few months at my local higher-end Kroger (not WallyMart people) have a combined total of 32 teeth, are smoking when they're outside the store, have bad language and are all obese, I like to think they're really not doing much to help themselves, and likely never have. One last thought, how many of you have seen a nicely dressed man or woman who obviously still has some vanity tooling around on one of these? No, those folks will either stay home or endure whatever pain is ailing them for that one giant thing they still have; pride.

Have we, as human beings, lost basic common sense? Have we really devolved that much? What would possess an individual to take a scooter up an escalator when an elevator was just 10 feet to the right? We are getting dumber and dumber and dumber and..

You're absolutely right Winston. I think folk that want to get out and do things in public really should as they won't be able to. However, those on serious pain medications (any of the oxys) should also have someone with them, especially if these folks are new to the meds or are on exceptionally high doses. Some of these meds can really screw with your thought process and make you do things you wouldn't normally do... like cruising up an escalator.

True, a lot of people using scooters can walk, but are not able to walk for very long or any distance. Whether this is due to heart, lungs, muscles, back, pain, or whatever - the scooters give them the ability to go shopping at Krogers or Walmart without completely exhausting themselves, while they remain ambulatory enough to get in and out of the chair, drive their car, etc. I know several people in that condition - walking is just very slow and painful, not impossible. I figure as long as I'm able to walk, I will - but if I find myself unable to go distances at some point, I'd use a scooter rather than stay home and feel sorry for myself.

The way she casually motors up to the escalator makes me think she's done it before and gotten away with it. Either that or it's her first day with the scooter and she has no grasp of the laws of physics. Either way, I can't wait to see this on World's Dumbest. Tonya Harding and Brad Lolkle can just steal their commentary right off this thread.

Being lazy can sometimes be overcome with intelligence, being stupid can sometimes be overcome with hard work. But there is no hope for people who are stupid, and lazy, with a great politician inculcated sense of entitlement.
