CHICAGO (AP) - Two ticket holders will share the highest Powerball jackpot ever, and the second-largest top prize in U.S. lottery history. The question is: Who are the winners waking up to new lives as multimillionaires?

Lottery officials said early Thursday that tickets sold in Arizona and Missouri matched all six numbers to win the record $587.5 million jackpot.

The numbers drawn Wednesday night are: 5, 16, 22, 23, 29. The Powerball is 6.

It was not clear whether the winning tickets belonged to individuals or groups. Arizona lottery officials said early Thursday morning they had no information on that state's winner or winners but would announce where it was sold during a news conference later in the day.

Lottery officials in Missouri did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

With these huge lotteries, and a set percentage supposedly going to the schools, how come the schools are always out of money? Who is really getting the money?

deanw...I wish I could buy into your conspiracy theory but theres really no reason for the lottery to be rigged. As long as people play THEY will always make money. The only way to "break" them is by not playing. Scratch off tickets can be deceiving because they still sell tickets that show a prize that someone may have already won so therefore the prize your playing for may already be gone...atleast some states used to be that way because of a class action law suit I read about but that may be different now??

Looks like rigging the drawings so nobody would win for several weeks paid off in millions of dollars for the lottery, but of course with millions on the line they would never do anything like that....of course not.....nooo....big money always leads to pure honesty.

I don't think Local 12 proofreads anything before they post it! The title says billion as the story says million...
