Florence Police released security video of a beating that left a homeless Bosnian immigrant with injuries-and led to the arrest of three people. The attack happened inside a laundromat in Florence early on Tuesday morning.
Florence Police say 53 year old Janis Ruspic was doing laundry alone inside the Turfway Laundry Mat at 2 a.m. The video shows two suspects enter the laundry mat while the third suspect waits at the doors and acts as a lookout. The two men approach Ruspic and start a conversation.
Ruspic walks away to a vending machine and attempts to buy a snack, when the two men come up from behind. One suspect talks with Ruspic again when suddenly, the second suspect grabs Ruspic from behind, slams him into the vending machine and then onto the floor. The two men are then seen punching and stomping on Ruspic repeatedly before going through his pockets and running from the laundromat.
Ruspic is able to get up after the attack and heads across the street for help.
A Florence Police dog was used to track the suspects to an apartment at Crown Court. The suspects' refused to open the door, according to police, so the SWAT team was called in. Once police got a search warrant, the suspects surrendered, around 6:30 a.m.-live on Local 12.
Charged with Robbery 1st degree are 22 year old Abdirashid Mohamud, originally from Somalia, 21 year old Mushin Ashur-also from Somalia-and 18 year old Abdifatah Abjullahi,a naturalized citizen from Kenya. All three men are in the Boone County Jail.
