The parents of a Brown County boy who was shot in the head and later died are now facing charges. Officers say 34 year old Chris Swartz and 34 year old Shanna Swartz, the mother and father of 9 year old Sebastian Swartz, left a fully loaded gun out in plain site.

Swartz was shot on February 18th at the family's home in the small community of Decatur.  Sebastian was apparently handling his father's Glock handgun, which had a laser site.

Sebastian's 14 year old sister saw him playing with the gun, and tried to take it away from him-that's when it went off.  Sebastian was then flown to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati.  He died one week after the shooting.

The little boy's father is a retired military police officer and very familiar with the handgun. At the time of the shooting, Sebastian's father told police he usually keeps it unloaded but not this time.

The Swartz's both face felony child endangering charges. They face up to three years in prison if convicted.

@zookeeper - RE:Kilpots - KUDOS TO YOU! Your observations and your post!!! I voice my opinion on here occasionally. Some people appreciate my opinion… others, not so much. Some observations of my own; Some people have entirely too much time on their hands believe their sole purpose on any given day is to dispute, debate, discourage, then demoralize a person's right to their own opinion. (You know who you are and YES that is specific to you!) On the other hand, I’ve seen comments that make absolutely no sense, cause me to question if that person was actually reading the same news story and/or did I missing something? I finally recognized some people are so dedicated to promoting their personal misery they make comments specifically to see who and how they can stir up drama. In their efforts to continually "stir the pot" the one satisfaction they always get; they forced people to lose sight of the true life happenings, people are so outraged at their ridiculous comments so they can smile to themselves thinking, "HaHa, they're so pi$$ed off, is it possible I made that person stroke out?" Here's my long winded point - TROLL (A.K.A.-Tyrant, Monster, Fiend, Ogre, Imp ("Imps” often referenced in the same sentence as the Devil)is defined as: Someone who posts inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussions. Thanks ZOO! Thank you for your astute observations, stating them publically, and pointing out the Troll. Kilpot should stay under the bridge, under the rock, or in the sewer they choose to create. It's a sad to see ones total focus as only being a Troll. Thanks to you, I see them more clearly, I can recognize (and dismiss)their true purpose or sole reason for existence, yet still maintain a healthy blood pressure. Thanks again for exposing it!

neece_78 Yes, you're my bro now. So get used to it. :) But, in all seriousness, "U mad bro?" is an internet meme. Go Google it. lol I said that because you seem mad. Now, if you know the facts, then perhaps you should be telling us here to get this story straightened out. FedUPWitAll, I agree. getalife, I agree too.

neece_78 Sounds like the family is hiding information. The only two people that will know the truth is the two kids, People are entitled to say what they want, whether right or wrong. You can blame the news or whoever you want, but were you there when this happened? If not, your going on what you have been told just like everyone else is going on what the news has been saying. The sad part about this, there is a little boy that will never get to live his life to the fullest because of his parents leaving a gun out!

Mrs.kilpots, YOU really need to get off the computer and pay more attention in class so you can learn other words besides "troll/trolls" for some reason you're stuck on that word and use it in every comment you make on here.LEARN SOMETHING/ANYTHING NEW. Listen to the teacher, you might learn a new word or two.

neece, why don't you tell us all exactly what/how it happened since the news is getting it all wrong, tell everybody on here instead of getting so pissed off at everybody about what they're saying. YOU make it sound like it's a big secret. Tell us what happened and you might change some minds. But until you do this is all we have to go by.

How can he be 34 & a retired Military Police Officer? Did he join the military at 14? Last I knew you have to serve 20 in order to retire. He may be "ex" but I seriously doubt retired. We all know in the rush to get the stories told, facts are not revealed nor are there follow up stories that reveal exactly what happened. Comments are based on the "facts" that are printed here. Seriously, if it offends you that badly, you may want to shut your computer off & walk away. Each comment I've seen has come from somone caring that a child lost his life when it could have been prevented.

HammeringHank - 4/1/2013 1:54 PM --- 11 and 12, they shoot my S&W and my Glock both 9mm. I grew up with firearms readily at hand and I learned not to touch, my girls have learned the same thing.

neece_78 - 3:01 AM - Facts? I am sorry, was a loaded weapon left out around untrained & unsupervised children? Did one child pick up the gun and another try to disarm him? How many more 'facts' does one need?
