I wonder how credible the Afghan witnesses will be.

No doubt he snapped. Most of us can't imagine what our servicemen and women have been through.

This is just so horribly sad & tragic and until I have spent a few tours in a war zone walking in this soldiers' boots, I will reserve judgement. I saw what WWII did to my uncles, especially my one uncle who fought in France, where his first 'kill' was a 15 yr old German soldier in a kill or be killed incident. I cannot even begin to understand how a person wraps their head around something like that. One would think or have hoped that in the history of 'civilization', human beings would have learned how to work through through their differences and eliminated the concept of 'war' :(

It seems the war has effected his mind, and now lives has been loss and his life will be changed.

To put it in simplist of terms...he snapped. Everyone has a breaking point, and I mean everyone! Take it from a combat infantryman's own personal viewpoint. Doesn't mean he was right. People need to just understand that combat stress fatigue is immense and it can break a man.

I just want to know in what way could he ever have thought he was "doing the right thing". There is no way killing innocent people could ever be considered the right thing.

sorry mindozako but unless this is the biggest cover up in the history of the US government this dude is nuts! You need to read into this case more what he did goes way beyond what a "messed up" soldier might do in the face evil. This guy would have been a murderer without the war I believe.

I feel sorry for this man. He is not a cold blooded murderer. He has seen stuff only you and I see in our worst nightmares. I AM NOT JUSTIFYING what he did but obviously he needed psychological help. Once you sign your name on that line you're fed to the wolves. Thank you to each and everyone of you that has served or still does serve for our country. God Bless you all and God Bless Staff. Sgt. Bales and his family.
