A vicious attack sends a man to the hospital with a gaping wound to his head and it's all caught on camera. Middletown police say the attacker used a large stick and began beating the victim with it.
The attack happened at a Middletown business and police are looking for the suspect.
The laundromat is on Verity Parkway. It's a pretty busy area usually, but the victim was there around 7 am last Sunday. He was alone with a man he's never seen before when the stranger attacked him with a stick. "It was a piece of wood about that long, about that big around. He hit me a second time and it broke."
David Jones still has painful reminders of a brutal beating he suffered at the hands of a stranger. He had 18 staples and five stitches. Last Sunday, Jones and the man in these surveillance pictures were the only ones in the laundromat. The stranger went out to his car, came back into Mid-Town Laundry with a large stick, and attacked Jones from behind. Jones says "I looked at him. He's got a big club and smashed me upside the head. I'm saying oh, my gosh. I fell down on the floor, on the ground. I said, nah I can't stay here cause you know if I'm down here, I'm gone."
The 57-year-old was determined to stop the beating. The men struggled, eventually Jones was able to get back on his feet and fight back. Then the suspect ran out of the laundromat. "I went and grabbed the broken half of stick that was still laying on the ground. when he backed up in his car, I took the stick and threw it and hit the side of his car."
The stranger never said a word to Jones, but police told him the man may have been trying to rob him. Jones will continue to do his laundry there, and he's hoping police catch the suspect before he attacks someone else. "If I would've pulled my knife out, I'd have gutted him, but it's the point. He might get some woman or something like that and mess her up, trying to rob her cause she couldn't have took what I took."
Jones says the man is balding, but he has red-hair, and a small goatee. He's possibly in his 40s and wore glasses. He drove a red Ford Focus that looked like it was a newer car.
