A local man who told police he left his child home alone to avoid going to jail ends up behind bars anyway. 20-year old Gerald Derrickson appeared in court this morning on charges of child endangering and domestic violence.

Police say Derrickson got into a fight with the mother of his child at a home in Mariemont last Thursday. She left for help, leaving Derrickson with their six-month-old daughter. When police showed up they found the child home alone.

A half an hour later, Derrickson called saying he left the house because he did not want to go to jail.

A judge set Derrickson's bond at $5000
