Cruise ships work by being at sea. The company in charge loses money when the ship is docked. They want the boat stuffed to capacity at sea with all the patrons getting wasted and spending money on booze and food. They do the very minimum in cleaning and repairing to the ship because it has to be docked to do this and they lose money when its docked. Ships will continue to break down and people will continue to get sick because its all about doing the minimum and getting you to spend the maximum while at sea. Ive never wanted to do a cruise and dont see myself changing my mind any time soon

Although it wasn't Carnival's fault a few years ago when I took a cruise out of Mobile, the weather was so rough for most of the 4 days, that they were hanging seasick bags all over the ship. There were so many people in sick bay, even a LOT of the crew members, that the medics had a tough time keeping up with the demand for meclizine tabs. My wife's first and last cruise. She spent 3 of the 4 days hugging the porcelain throne.

Jetaguy45230: They thought of that but felt it was too risky.

While I am sure they were uncomfortable, for the love of God it wasn't like they were there for weeks on end. 4 days out of their lives. Not like they had to deal with the aftermath of a hurricane or tornado, trying to recover property that is covered in mud or thrown from one county to the next. Chalk it up to bad luck and get on with your life.

As this seems to happen more often, it would seem that the cruise lines are simply too cheap to have adequate auxilliary power. More auxilliary power would take up too much space, (space where you can cram in more passengers) and would add to the initial construction cost.

In the olden days, sailing ships, when stuck in some spot in the middle of the ocean without a breeze, sometimes for weeks, would suffer from the growing floating garbage & 'poo' that came from their ship. While these people sit up much higher from the ocean than one of those old sailing ships, I bet the scenario (and the smell) isn't much different....

Well, heck then, maybe "Carnival Cruise Lines President Gerry Cahill" should ride the rest of the way in to port with the passengers...
