A Lexington woman accused of shooting her boyfriend to death last weekend is facing a higher bond Wednesday morning. Shayna Hubers, 21, is charged with murder in the death of 29-year-old Ryan Poston.

Hubers appeared in court Tuesday morning via video.

The Commonwealth Attorney argued that Hubers' bond remain at the pre-arraignment amount of $2 million. The visiting judge decided to reduce bond to $1 million, despite instructions from the presiding judge not to reduce the bond.  When the presiding judge returned, he reportedly increased the bond to $5 million.

Hubers' defense lawyer refused comment and would only say, "The only thing Shayna is guilty of is bad taste in men." This statement comes despite the fact that Hubers was arrested at the scene of the crime on Friday night.

Police were called to an apartment on Meadow Lane in Highland Heights at about 9 p.m. on Friday for a report of a person shot. They found Poston dead of multiple gunshot wounds.

On Wednesday morning, Poston's family released a new statement. "Please keep in mind that the real victim in this tragedy is Ryan Poston, not the woman who shot him multiple times. Anyone who ever knew Ryan knows her claims of self-defense are absurd. We look forward to the day when the truth comes out in a court of law, not from the mouth of a criminal defense lawyer trying his case in the media."

All I'd like to add is that there are TONS of pictures of this woman (readily available online so long as her attorney hasn't found them all and taken them down) where she is toting firearms and practicing her marksmanship skills at a shooting range. She first shot him IN THE FACE, which is a terribly hard shot to make for one who is a novice at shooting guns. Lots of females know how to carry and shoot, especially with practice. Just because she has a pretty face doesn't mean she didn't know what she was doing.

You obviously know nothing about the law, have no couth, are sociopathic and completely oblivious to the suffering the late Mr. Poston's family has had to deal with. People like you are the reason the world makes me sick sometimes. AT LEAST I AM NOT A LAWYER.

whit1981, so you must be a lawyer too. I have never met one that was worth bad dirt.

.... and Wil Zevely wonders why he has the reputation he has? What I desire to type here regarding his rubbish public comments would most assuredly be deleted. I think however I will email him to let him know the type of refuse he actually is... I suggest you do the same at wzevely@aol.com. There is proper jurisprudence... and this is not it.

I'm having real difficulty envisioning a world where a man is shot in the back of the head, while sitting in a chair, and that's considered self-defense. Shot in the face while standing, maybe. If he was sitting and facing away from her, couldn't she have just left the scene?

Good with the bond increase ... Shooting someone only to turn around and shoot them again to take them out of their misery .. is not "self defense" ... I bet ... there are others ... (old boyfriends) ... who saw that she was crazy ... and this guy probably did too ... but wasn't lucky enough to get away from her. The only thing this guy (who happens to be a lawyer) did wrong, was like / love a woman who DID NOT LOVE HERSELF.

Economystic-you know nothing about which you speak. Your comments that lawyers deserve to be murdered is sickening and you are pathetic on all counts. You obviously know nothing about the law, have no couth, are sociopathic and completely oblivious to the suffering the late Mr. Poston's family has had to deal with. People like you are the reason the world makes me sick sometimes. His poor judgement in letting her in his residence, if he even did, is not a license for her to murder him. He is a murder victim, nothing he did is to blame for his murderer's acts. Nothing.

Raised the bond?...well that was a slap in the face to her attorney! A bond should never be lowered for someone accused of murder.

as a lwayer the guy shold have known what a restraining order was and should have been given one no questons asked because he is a lawyer. And true, where did she get a gun? had she been under a restraining order she should not have been able to purchase one.
