Medical Edge: Polo for Babies

Updated: Thursday, December 18 2014, 01:22 PM EST
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A local mom and dad would like to invite the community to a polo match the weekend of August 22nd, 2014.

It will benefit Cincinnati Children's Hospital and the team, they said, saved their baby's life.  Baby Adeline started it all and she is now almost 13 months old.

Betsy Leonidas, Adeline's mom, said, "When Adeline was born seven days later  we found out that Adeline had the enterovirus.  Which normally is just a summer cold, but for babies it can be quite serious and poor Adeline went into liver failure."

She's alive, her family says, because a medical team with some of the best doctors in the world helped save her life.  Now the community can help give back to that team.  They've launched "Polo for Babies."

Dad Christopher Leonidas explained, "All the money that we get, all the more research they can do and the more people they can save like our daughter."

The goal was to start with a match here and there that will catch on across the country and raise money for Children's research.  Polo is one of the most exciting sports!  Mark Sedacca is a professional polo player and instructor.  He said it was also a great workout.

"The players have to have good hand eye coordination,  Most players ride a couple hours a day.  The professionals are riding five or six hours a day all year long," said Sedacca.

"Polo for Babies" will happen Saturday, August 23 at Kellogg Avenue Fields at 4p.m.  Tickets are $10.
