Health Alert: Research shows standing up could help fight certain diseases

Updated: Monday, June 16 2014, 04:41 PM EDT
EDGEWOOD, Ky. (Liz Bonis) -- A new report says if you want to improve your health, you need to get out of your chair throughout the day.

You may not be sure of how much you sit throughout the day, but a new report found you could really boost your health if you stand up.

Researchers found that less sit time can lead to a huge drop in your odds for certain diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, stroke, colon cancer, breast cancer and others. Researchers at Kansas State looked at people and length of time they were sitting

It appears you don't get the muscle contractions needed just sitting, so they found if you just stand up or move it makes a difference.

So here's what' recommended: every hour just see if you can break from sitting and stand for five to 10 minutes. Research shows it may make a difference when it comes to theses diseases.
