Reunions are similar to other types of event planning: you'll need invitations, a location, refreshments, entertainment, and possibly lodging. The amount of work involved depends on what kind of reunion you're planning: is this a small family get-together, a large-scale reunion with several branches of the family, or a high school class reunion? How many people are invited? Do they have to travel from far away? These are all important considerations. Start by developing a preliminary budget. For family events, try to estimate what each person would be willing to spend. This will affect the type of facility you can afford, as well as food or entertainment. Next, send out invitations or flyers, with a general description of the event. Make sure it includes an R.S.V.P. address and phone number. You may want to offer two or three possible dates, and go with whatever the majority chooses. Once you get an idea of the number attending, you can finalize arrangements with hotels, caterers, or site managers. Follow up by sending the guests an itinerary, and a map to the location. Set up a desk at the reunion where guests can check in, and get a nametag.
