Formal weddings usually rely on tradition to guide the selection and planning of all ceremony and reception events. Formal weddings generally require formal attire for all involved, including the guests. Bridal wear traditionally consists of a long white or ivory gown with a long train. The more formal the event, the longer the train can be. The bride may also choose to wear a veil. The groom will usually wear a black tuxedo with tails, a white vest, and a white bow tie. Attendant's attire will also reflect formality. Bridesmaids should wear long dresses while groomsmen should dress similar to the groom. Formal ceremonies are usually held after six in the evening and are conducted in a formal place of worship such as a church or synagogue. Many receptions will feature a seated dinner and live musical entertainment. Wedding invitations are generally engraved and should state that the event is a formal affair so that guests may dress appropriately. While tradition is usually relied upon in formal weddings, there is some room for personal preferences. For more information, contact a wedding planner.
