Choosing a reception site

Choosing a site to have the reception for your special event can depend on a number of factors: budget, size of the party, and nature of the event. One way to check out a potential reception site is to talk to someone who's had a reception or party there. They should be able to tell you about the capabilities and reputation of the establishment. You may ask whether they'd have their reception there again, and whether or not they'd change anything about the service or policies. Were the food selection and quality acceptable? What was their overall impression? Contact the Better Business Bureau and, if applicable, the party planner you're working with for an opinion. Once you've narrowed down the choices, take a tour of the facilities and have a meeting with the catering manager to discuss policies, prices, and potential menus. Choose a site that will accommodate your event, and one that your guests will enjoy. If the event will include out-of-town guests, work with one person who can arrange hotel rooms, reception, airport transportation, transportation to the event, and other details. Reception sites may book events many months-- and even years-- in advance, so selecting a location should be one of your most important event-planning priorities.
