Ideas for introducing parents

Set Text Size SmallSet Text Size MediumSet Text Size LargeSet Text Size X-Large
If the two sets of parents haven't met before you announce your engagement, you'll want to arrange a meeting at the earliest opportunity. Since it's customary for the bride's parents to host an engagement party, this can be a perfect time to introduce them to the groom's parents. It doesn't matter whether you choose a formal setting, or just a backyard cook-out. However, it's wise to choose an atmosphere where everyone will be comfortable, especially if the families are of different backgrounds. Or, you could invite the families out for dinner at a nearby restaurant. When the parents live in different cities, you'll need to pick a weekend when everyone can meet. Typically, one family invites the other to visit, along with the engaged couple. Or, all parents may travel to the son or daughter's house. This also provides a chance to start planning for the ceremony and reception, and hopefully, set a budget. Remember, it's natural for each side to be a bit nervous at first, so do your best to make the meeting friendly and relaxed. After they've spent a little time together, everyone will probably feel much more at ease.
