Some grooms may surprise their intended brides by purchasing the engagement ring or using a family heirloom. Other couples wait to pick out the rings together. When choosing the rings together, it is recommended that you do not buy in a hurry. The rings are meant to be worn a lifetime and should reflect your personal taste and style. The more knowledge you have about the quality of a diamond, or other gems, the better chance you have of getting the best quality for your money. Make sure you are dealing with a reputable jeweler. A good jeweler will work with you to select a ring within your budget and to your liking. If you don't find the ring you want after shopping around, ask jewelers about a custom design. Also, some jewelers will offer you an opportunity to trade your ring up for a more expensive style at a later date. Remember the four C's of diamond buying: color, cut, clarity, and carat. These terms refer to a method of determining the quality and worth of the diamond. Your jeweler will be able to explain each term and how it applies to the ring you have selected. And it is recommended that you get a written appraisal from your jeweler for insurance purposes. Check with your homeowner's insurance company to see if the rings can be added to your existing coverage. For more information on buying the rings, contact a wedding specialist.
