The type of wedding you choose will determine the style of tuxedo that the groom should wear. There are many choices to be made when deciding on a tuxedo. Perhaps the first thing to determine is whether to rent or buy the formal wear. Since traditional tuxedos are suitable for year-round wear, the groom might choose to purchase a tuxedo which can be used for future occasions. Renting formal wear is a more economical choice for those on a tighter budget. Traditional tuxedo styles vary according to the time of day of the wedding. Very formal daytime marriages call for attire known as 'morning dress' consisting of a black or gray cutaway coat, ascot tie, gray pants, and a white shirt. Formal night ceremonies usually require a white bowtie and vest worn with a black tailcoat and trousers, known as 'White Tie'. Less formal daytime marriage attire consists of a black or gray cutaway coat with matching pants and a black and gray striped tie. For a less formal night ceremony most grooms wear 'Black Tie' which is a standard tuxedo with a white shirt, black vest or cummerbund (COME-mer-bund), and a black bowtie. Make sure the tuxedo is chosen at least two months before the ceremony. It is also a good idea to outfit all groomsmen and fathers early, so that any last-minute alterations can be made. For more information on tuxedos and formal attire, contact a wedding planner or formal wear retailer.
