The tuxedo is the traditional wedding attire for men; in one form or another, it's been worn since at least the late 1800's. Past tuxedos usually featured a long frock coat, or a cutaway jacket with tails. A modern version of the cutaway is still worn today. However, you'll also find many variations on the traditional tux. A few styles include single-breasted, double-breasted, and shawl collars. Usually, the time of day and degree of formality will determine the style chosen. Tuxedo jackets are generally black, gray, white, or off-white, with striped or solid black trousers. The vest and bowtie are in coordinated colors. Another option is an ascot-style tie, which can be solid or in a quiet stripe. If you want to depart from tradition, you can choose a colorful bowtie and cummerbund. The so-called 'boiled shirt' with its tiny upturned collar and small formal buttons is still worn with most tuxes. Shoes are usually patent leather slip-ons, with little detail. As a finishing touch, it's common to add cufflinks, a tie tack, and a boutonniere or pocket square.
