Daycare centers and home care facilities are required to provide activities suited to the developmental needs of the children in their care. State laws often require caregivers to provide daily indoor and outdoor times, when weather permits. Some regulations further state that time periods should include alternating active and quiet pursuits. A well organized day with a caregiver can include opportunity for individual, as well as group, activities. Some caregivers schedule math, science, and language learning activities several times a week, depending on the curriculum used. To vary activities, many daycare providers schedule field trips for children. Some states require a notice of these trips be posted from 48 hours prior to the trip until the groups have returned. Regulations may mandate what's included in the notice, usually the destination, how long they'll be gone, and who'll be going. When such activities are included, there is a lower studen-to-teacher ratio, and there must be a staff member present with current training in first aid and C-P-R, to provide optimum care for your child. For more information on scheduled activities, contact your daycare provider.
