A simple and fun craft project children can enjoy at home is making musical instruments. It’s also a convenient project because children can keep these instruments as toys and continue enjoying them for years to come. Some projects may require adult supervision. To make finger cymbals, you need two baby food jar lids, one-quarter to one-half inch of wide elastic, a hammer, and a nail. Cut two four-inch pieces of elastic. With an adult’s help, use the hammer and nail to punch a hole in the center of each baby food jar lid. Push both ends of a piece of elastic through each hole. Tie the ends of the elastic into a knot. Slip the finger cymbals on your thumb and pointer finger and make music. To make a humming flute, you need a cardboard paper towel or toilet paper roll, wax paper, a rubber band, and a pencil. With the pencil, poke three or four holes in a straight line in the cardboard roll about one inch apart. Cut a four-inch square of wax paper. Secure the wax paper over one end of the cardboard roll using the rubber band. Your flute is now ready to play. To make a kazoo, you need a toilet paper tube, wax paper, rubber bands, crayons, a paper punch, and scissors. Use wax crayons to decorate the tube. Make a hole halfway down the tube with a paper punch. Place the wax paper square around the end of the tube and hold in place with the rubber band. Practice humming with your mouth on the open end of the kazoo. To make a kazoo of a different size, try using aluminum foil tubes or Christmas paper tubes. The sounds may change if you use larger tubes
