For generations, children have enjoyed walkie talkie tin cans, also known as tin can phones. This toy employs the use of sound waves and is simple to construct. First, find two empty tin cans. One end of each should be unopened. Punch a hole through each of these ends for your children. Then, let them knot an end of a wire and pull the other end of it through each of the holes. Now, have them knot the other end of the wire. Stretching the cord tautly between the cans should enable the wire to conduct sound fairly well. Even if the children are in different areas, they should be able to carry on a conversation with each other. These walkie talkies are durable, and should last for quite a while if given proper care. Here's a tip--you may want to cover any sharp edges of the can with duct tact, to prevent the children from being cut.
