Are you and your children interested in recycling? Here are three fun ways to recycle tin cans. This first one is a version of stilts. Take two large cans and several feet of rope. For each stilt, make two holes on opposite sides of the can and thread the rope through the holes. Not only will your youngster enjoy the stilts, you can use them when painting the walls at the ceiling or putting up the wall paper trim. Decorate vegetable cans for great pencil cups. Single-serving-sized cans make good crayon holders, too. The fun part is decorating the outside of the can. Take a piece of paper, or felt that will fit around the can and decorate it with glitter, buttons, or even plastic jewels. Once the creation is finished, glue it around the can and fill it with pencils, flowers, or candy. Short cans, such as tuna or pineapple cans, make good pin cushions. Take a round piece of fabric, put some steel wool in the center of it, and gather up the edges. Tie the them together with a rubber band and glue the bundle, rubber band side down, into the can. The steel wool can help keep pins and needles sharp, too.
