Egg coloring doesn't have to be done with vinegar and little dye tablets. You can make each egg a work of art. Follow these instructions, and you won't have to crack open your 'egg-stra' special creations, either. To begin, hollow out a raw egg by poking a small hole in each end with an ice pick. On the flatter end, make the hole slightly bigger by wiggling the pick around a little. Next, force the egg yolk and white out the larger hole by blowing into the other end. When all the liquid is out, rinse the interior with warm water. Let it dry for about 30 minutes. For a sturdier egg, it's a good idea to reinforce it by spraying it with a few coats of flat white paint. Once the white paint is dry, you can let the children's imaginations run wild. They can paint the egg with a base color, and add sprinkles, sequins, or glitter. Fabric scraps or pieces of colorful tissue paper can be decoupaged (DEH-coo-pah-jed) onto the egg with glue or clear acrylic. Construction paper and cotton balls can be added to the mix to create egg people. As long as each hole is left clear, the eggs can be hung in front of a window or from a tree. Cut a narrow piece of ribbon about twelve inches long. Fold the string in half, and tie the loose ends in a bow (boe). Then, use a piece of wire to thread the folded end through the egg. The bottom of the egg should rest on the bow. Here's a final tip--prepare a delicious omelet while waiting for the eggs to dry from their warm water rinse.
