An Oxford woman faces charges, accused of starving her puppy nearly to death. Cathy Conklin faces a count of animal cruelty for the incident last Friday.
Butler County officials say the woman called 911 to say someone dumped a starving dog on her doorstep. She later admitted to owning the dog.
The animal, named Corie, weighed just four pounds and is 10 months old. Animal Friends Humane Society in Butler County is caring for the dog. The dog was an indoor dog and workers believe Conklin was watching her waste away. "She is alert, she's aware, she's responsive, affectionate, and loving. The only thing this dog was missing is food."
Butler County Dog Warden Julie Holmes says this was not a case of a person unable to provide for the dog, but simply a matter of someone who was unwilling to feed it. Corie is now well enough to be adopted out.
Meantime, Conklin tells Local 12 she vehemently disputes the charges and says her dog simply would not eat and she had to get rid of the dog due to her husband's health concerns.
A charge of animal cruelty in Butler County carries a $750 fine and jail time. Conklin will go to court next month.
