PLANTATION, Fl. (CNN) - A Florida woman got a big surprise when she looked at the front of her truck, and saw nothing but two huge eyes staring back at her.
Sonji Coney Williams was headed south on the Florida Turnpike on Thursday, when she struck something in the dark. She assumed whatever it was she hit had become roadkill.
Not until Friday did someone point out that the entire time, a great horned owl had tagged along in the grill of her truck.
Williams was running errands when a family flagged her down in the parking lot.
"[They said] don't move, don't move, you have something in the grill of your truck. I said, 'Yes, what is it?' And they said, 'It's an owl.' And I said, 'An owl?'" said Williams.
She called for Florida Fish and Wildlife, and an officer opened the hood and freed the bird.
The owl was in good shape and had not suffered any injuries.
