Pet socialization is important for the development of a confident and less fearful pet. Early socialization will help your pet better relate to both humans and other animals, however, newborn pets should not be taken away from their litter until well after the weaning period. When introducing a new pet into your home, overcome any shyness or fear of human contact it may have by petting and praising the animal so that it may feel secure in its new environment. However, be wary of carrying your pet too often as it will expect this treatment in the future. Proper training can aid in the socialization process. By letting your pet know what type of behavior is appropriate, the animal can feel more comfortable in knowing what is expected of it. Like humans, proper socialization is important for a well-rounded pet. For more information on pet socialization, contact your veterinarian or animal care specialist.

Don't Forget Your Tags!

In Ohio, all dogs over three months of age must be registered (licensed) with the county auditor. The licensing of any dog residing in Hamilton County can be completed by using this mail-in form or by visiting any one of a number of convenient licensing agents. If you and your pet live outside of Hamilton County, please contact your local auditor's office for information.

Dog licensing is much more than a law you need abide by. The tags and the identification number they contain could also help return your prized pet to you should he or she become lost!
