A pet lizard may not be especially cuddly, but it can be fascinating and even useful to have around the house. There are many different types of lizards that make suitable pets, but they all have one thing in common: they're cold-blooded reptiles. That means you must maintain a warm environment for them, since their body temperature depends on the air around them. Finding a suitable cage depends on the type of lizard. An iguana does quite well in a large aquarium tank, while a chameleon (ka-MEALY-un) needs the airflow provided by a wire cage. Always buy a lizard that was raised in captivity; those caught in the wild often have internal parasites. If you'd like a really helpful lizard, consider a gecko. They come in some truly beautiful colors and can keep your home insect-free. They have suction-cups on their feet, so they can climb walls or even ceilings to track down and gobble up bugs without the use of pesticides.
