Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, known as C-P-R, is used to restore normal breathing and heartbeat after cardiac arrest. All states mandate that childcare providers be trained in basic first aid as well as this emergency treatment. While exact regulations differ, most full-time workers must be able to provide documentation of achieving a certificate from an approved training course within six months of being employed by a child care center. C-P-R certificates remain valid for two to three years. Childcare workers can become re-certified by attending the training classes again. Part-time and seasonal childcare providers may have less strict time limit guidelines on receiving C-P-R certification, but again, this varies by state. Daycare centers should keep copies of the training documentation of their employees, to prove the center meets state requirements. If your child attends home daycare, you should know these providers must have C-P-R training and certification to become licensed, too. It's a good idea to ask to see the C-P-R certificate of your child's caregiver.
