Toilet training your child can be accomplished if you and your childcare provider use consistency and calmness. While no special equipment is necessary, you may find a small potty chair, or a child-size attachable seat helps the child feel securely balanced while on the toilet. Ideally, any equipment used at home should be used at the childcare facility. Since centers may have existing policies regarding supplemental equipment, speak with your caregiver before introducing any supplies from home. Some childcare experts recommend dressing your child in cloth diapers for a week or so prior to beginning toilet training, to make the child more aware of when wetting or soiling has occurred. You may prefer to use cloth training pants with leak-proof overpants. Some caregivers don't accept cloth diapers or underpants for toddlers who haven't been toilet trained, so, once again, consult your childcare provider. Conveniently, disposable training pants are available in a variety of sizes. These can be pulled up and down like underclothing. They absorb and protect like diapers, but can be taken on and off by young children.
