The beginning of the terrific twos to the start of the thrilling threes is an age full of mastering finer motor skills and developing social skills. During this phase, most youngsters begin planning their actions. From coloring a picture to taking turns, two-year-olds are discovering the ability to manage their behavior. Daycare providers should begin providing activities of five to ten minutes each, to suit increasing attention spans. During this time, many children will master toilet training. Communication and teamwork with your child's caregiver can help this process be as smooth and successful as possible. It's a good idea to make sure your child has at least one change of clothes at the daycare in case soiling does occur. At first, two-year-olds will play beside one another rather than with one another. When approaching three, many children begin to join in group play willingly. Caregivers may introduce children to closer peer interaction during this year, through suggested games or role- playing. When leaving your child at daycare, remember that developing a routine can help them begin their day with confidence. Many parents find that a certain number of hugs or a special phrase is comforting to the child, and helps their day begin on a cheerful note.
