Occasionally, children are healthy enough to attend daycare, but need to receive medication. Before a caregiver can administer any prescription or over-the-counter medicine, parents must sign a permission slip. State laws carefully regulate this matter, as even over the counter medications can cause a serious reaction if a child has an undiscovered allergy. Daycare centers and family daycare providers may not dispense even cough syrup without your written consent. If you suspect your child may be more comfortable when given a children's aspirin or pain reliever, remember to bring this medication with you when you drop your child off. Some providers have a policy requiring all medications to be sent home with the child every night. This may seem inconvenient, but it can prevent a misunderstanding regarding how long your child needs to be medicated. Question your caregiver about the policy currently practiced there.
