Most golfers tend to feel fairly comfortable using irons four through seven. They're more forgiving than the long irons and don't demand the pinpoint accuracy of the wedges. When using these clubs, remember the basics of stance, posture, and swing. Like any other phase of the game, practice is essential. Even though it's called a driving range, don't just use your driver. Work your way through every club in your bag to get the feel of each one. This is also a good time to check out the range of each club. The average distance of a five-iron, for example, is 160 yards for men and 140 yards for women. These are statistical averages, and may not relate to your own game. See how much yardage you get with each club while you're still on the practice range. This can help you determine which club to use once you get out on the course.
