Ideally, the right time to settle your claim is when you receive notification that the claim form you submitted has been accepted. However, if your claim has been accepted but you believe you will not receive the correct amount of compensation, you may choose to enter into negotiations. The correct time to enter into settlement negotiations for your claim depends on many factors. These factors include your medical status, your vocational rehabilitation status, and other factors particular to your case. The timing of a settlement of your claim can be extremely important; therefore, you may want to consider hiring a workers' compensation attorney. You have the right to be represented by an attorney, whose fees are generally set by law as a percentage of the benefits you receive. If you discuss your claim with a workers' compensation attorney, be sure you ask about, and understand the attorney's fees. For more information, talk with an attorney who is knowledgeable in the area of workers' compensation.
