If you've been involved in an automobile accident and there's any damage or injury involved, there are a few important pieces of information you should obtain before leaving the scene. Obtain the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and driver's license information of all of the other drivers involved. Also take down the names and telephone numbers of the insurance companies as well as the names and numbers of any witnesses to the accident. These items of information can be important in protecting you in any future investigation or insurance assessment. If the police have been called to the accident scene, don't leave until they give you permission to do so. If you do, you may be found guilty of a hit-and-run offense. If you've been involved in a vehicle accident, immediately contact your insurance company and find out which papers to fill out and any documents required. Be sure to save copies of receipts for any medical or other expenses you might incur. An insurance adjuster may contact you for further information.
