Clients are entitled to the undivided loyalty of the attorney they choose to pursue their claims and represent their interests. Whatever is discussed between the client and the attorney is almost always confidential, and only the client can determine to waive the privilege of confidentiality. The client is also entitled to a written fee agreement and to receive competent legal services. Additionally, a client's claim may not be settled without consultation with and authorization by the client. The client has the right to be reasonably advised as to the progress of his or her case. If a recovery is obtained for the client, the client is entitled to receive and review an accounting of the expenses and fees incurred in connection with the case. A client should not expect his or her attorney to engage in any conduct that is dishonest, unethical or illegal. An attorney is bound by the legal code of professional responsibility. For more information on clients' rights, contact a qualified attorney.
