Many different types of people adopt children. Sometimes the adoptive parents are people who can not have children of their own. Other times they are people who can or do have their own children but would like to provide other children with a loving home. Adoptive parents are usually financially secure and able to provide for the future and well being of a child. Around the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy, if birth parents are considering adoption, they may be shown profiles of adoptive parents. Adoptive parents can write letters describing their hobbies, jobs, education, ages, religious beliefs, extended family members, home, neighborhood, pets, and vacations. Birth parents may be provided with photographs of the couple at various stages of their lives, as well as photos of their family and home. These provide the birth parents with an idea of what life for the child might be like with the prospective adoptive parents. Once the birth parents select the adoptive parents, they may meet them if they wish. Often the hopes and plans of birth parents and adoptive parents are discussed, so that they can all feel more comfortable with the adoption decision. For more information on adoptive parent profiles, consult an adoption agency, adoption attorney, or family counselor.
