When packing computers and other electronic equipment, the best way to prevent damage is to use the original carton and packaging materials. However, if you have long since thrown away this packaging, you can wrap the individual components, such as the receiver, VCR or CD player, in clean plastic garbage bags to protect them from dust and dirt. You can then pack them in cartons and pad with bubble wrap or newspapers. Remember to secure and seal the cartons, marking each with the word 'fragile' on the outside. Your personal computer and printer require careful attention as well. Be sure to disconnect all wires and stabilize your hard drive by inserting a blank floppy disk into the disk drive. When you arrive at your new destination, it is a good idea to let your personal computer and electronic equipment adjust to the new room temperature before plugging in and turning on. For more information on packing and moving computers and other electronic equipment, please contact your local moving company.
