An exit plan is priceless in the case of a fire. By creating a consistent plan that trains your family how to exit the house safely by instinct, you'll take valuable seconds off their escape and may very well save their lives. Involve the whole family in the creation of the plan so everyone will understand and remember it. This especially helps small children to understand and relieves fear of implementing the plan when the time comes. Create a family meeting place outside the home to gather once everyone has escaped. Teach your family survival techniques like touching the back of doors with the back of your hand to test for heat, and crawl along the floor to inhale less smoke and escape the heat. Your local firefighter can teach you all you need to know about fire safety.
