Nothing will replace a needle and thread for repairing clothing, but if your clothes become damaged when you're away from home, there are a few temporary fixes that could get you by for a while. If a skirt hem suddenly gives out while you're at work, a well-placed staple or two should hold it in place long enough to get you through the day. Be sure to staple from the inside out, so the staple doesn't snag your stockings. Torn clothes or split seams can often be held together for short periods of time with masking, adhesive, or cloth tape. If you have the opportunity to apply an iron-on patch, you can glue it in position first with a little white glue to hold it in place while you iron. The glue will wash right out the next time you do the laundry. If your waistband button won't fasten after a big meal, loop a rubber band through the buttonhole and then around the button. It'll give you a little extra room until your stomach gets back to normal. These are just emergency fixes, but they're generally better than the alternative.
